Suitability and limitations
SMP can be considered for a shaved-hair appearance, camouflage of selected scars or reduced contrast in thinning areas. Results depend on design, skin and pigment response. It does not replace the texture or growth of real hair.
Active scalp inflammation, infection or other skin disease requires assessment before pigment treatment. Discuss a history of allergy, keloids, skin problems or previous tattooing; suitability is individual.
SMP and hair transplantation
Some people discuss SMP alongside a transplant or as an alternative when donor hair is limited. Ask how the design will fit the existing hair, future hair loss and any planned surgery.
Aftercare and maintenance
Follow the practitioner’s written instructions for cleansing, exercise, sun protection and review. Pigment can fade or change appearance over time, and maintenance needs differ between individuals. Confirm touch-up costs and arrangements before booking.
SMP risks and cost
Discuss infection, allergic reactions, scarring, fading, colour change and an unsatisfactory outline or density. A patch test does not remove every risk. Ask how complications or an unwanted result would be managed.
